DIRECTOR OF SAFETY’S INTENT

The Air Force District of Washington Safety Office takes great pride in fostering an environment which breeds excellence, stimulates growth, and focuses on the protection of Airmen and Air Force property from injuries and mishaps.  The AFDW Safety Office serves as the principal staff advisor to the commander, senior leaders, and field safety staffs on all safety matters to include flight, ground, and weapons.  We rely on the teamwork of our professional Airmen, both uniformed and civilian, to work toward a safety-minded culture driven by risk mitigation and awareness as we execute inherently dangerous war-fighting missions.  By focusing on our priorities, we remain prepared to prevail in today’s fight as well as in the uncertain challenges of tomorrow.  We are fueled by our greatest asset—our Airmen—and we stand ready to answer our nation’s call.

The CSAF-directed Integrating Risk and Readiness Campaign is dedicated to transforming the employment of Risk Management from a programmatic concept to an operational imperative, teaching Airmen how to make risk-informed decisions across the full spectrum of operations.

The execution of the campaign is multiphasic; the Stand-Up day is the first phase and is intended to be a full day (required minimum of 4 hours) of activities, encompassing a video from CSAF, a leadership all-call, Risk Management training and small group discussions and/or exercises.  The training will be conducted by senior leadership for each unit assigned to AFDW and can be tailored to fit group/squadron/element missions.  Mandatory training items are assigned below.

The second phase of the campaign is enduring, developing the risk management skills of all Airmen.  A training program is in development that will ensure the integration of risk management into all DAF-wide operations, instructions, and training.
