PA Mission Statement

The Air Force District of Washington Public Affairs Directorate serves as the conduit between the military and the public, reinforcing trust and confidence in the military and building an informed public through community engagements, command information products, and media relations. AFDW/PA serves as the communications advisor to the AFDW Commander and provides strategic support to Joint Task Force-National Capital Region. AFDW/PA provides MAJCOM-like public affairs support to 11th Wing, 316th Wing and 844th Communications Group and provides world-wide support to all Public Affairs Airmen not assigned to an Air Force major command.

Please note: The availability of the services listed below will vary depending on the Personnel Accounting Symbol (PAS) Code assigned within the command.

Coordinate Exercise Support for IMSC & Combat Camera AFDW/PA coordinates all requests for non-MAJCOM PA forces to participate in exercise support for IMSC and Combat Camera requests. For example, If SOUTHCOM or AFSOUTH requests PA support for an exercise, we will coordinate/solicit any worldwide volunteers to support.
Coordinate Training Requirements & Developmental Opportunities for PA Personnel Coordinate training requirements and developmental opportunities for PA personnel. All training requests for all non-MAJCOM assigned PA personnel is submitted by AFDW/PA to SAF/PA. We distribute all training opportunities and receive all requests for all Defense Information School slots for training.
Counsel to Executive Effective Communication Strategies Per AFI 35-101: Provides counsel to Execute Effective Communication Strategies. This is done through serving as the PA Lead Site Coordinator for state funerals and PA lead in supporting JTF-NCR taskings.
Functional Advisors for the Equipment Review Board Functional advisors for the equipment review board. Receives all equipment review requests from all non-MAJCOM assigned PA personnel and works with SAF/PA and AFPAA to get public affairs equipment reviewed for use.
Manage Annual Public Affairs & Media Contest Awards Program Per SAF/PA guidance, manage annual public affairs and media contest awards program for all PA personnel and units not assigned to a MAJCOM. This includes all joint PA positions except Defense Media Activity or those assigned to SAF/PA.
Provide Public Affairs Guidance & Public Affairs Career Field Updates Provide public affairs guidance and public affairs career field updates. All PA personnel not assigned to a MAJCOM or SAF/PA or OSD/PA receive public affairs guidance via AFDW/PA distribution. AFDW/PA has both a PA Career Field Manager and Functional Area Manager, on par with MAJCOMs and fulfills at duties associated with those two positions.
Resource & Manpower Oversight/Guidance Resource and manpower oversight/guidance for all non-MAJCOM and Joint Units. Works with units to review and update PA manpower and works with SAF/PA to determine new or changing manpower requests.
