****TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE BEGINNING 19 September 2024 at 8:00 AM DUE TO CONSTRUCTION****

 

Beginning, September 19 at 8 AM, Columbia Pike will reopen and lead to the entrance of the Air Force Memorial. Entry to the temporary access road from Southgate Road will be permanently closed. Access to the AFM parking lot from the temporary access road will be blocked off after business hours.

Parking is free at the Air Force Memorial, though limited. There are 28 parking spaces along the entry road are open to visitors and ceremony guests on a first come, first served basis. 

 

Public Transportation

Bus:
Navy Annex Stop: approximately one block west of the Memorial
     - Metro #42 busses stop in front of Navy Annex at Stop ID #6001417 and #6001416. Visit
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for more information. 

Driving Directions

From Maryland:   
From Maryland: Take MD-295 S. Continue onto MD-201, crossing into DC. Continue onto DC-295. Take the exit onto I-695 W. Continue onto I-395 S and cross into Virginia. Take exit 8A for VA-27 / Washington Blvd toward Pentagon South Parking / S Arlington Ridge Rd. Keep right at the fork and merge onto VA-27 W / S Washington Blvd. Take the VA-244 E / Columbia Pike Ramp to Navy Annex. Turn right onto VA-244 E / Columbia Pike. Turn left at Air Force Memorial Drive.
 
 
From Downtown DC:
Take I-395 S toward Virginia. Take exit 8A for VA-27 / Washington Blvd toward Pentagon South Parking / S Arlington Ridge Rd. Keep right at the fork and merge onto VA W / S Washington Blvd. Take the VA-244 E / Columbia Pike Ramp to Navy Annex. Turn right onto VA-244 E / Columbia Pike. Turn left at Air Force Memorial Drive.
 
From Virginia:
Take I-395 N. Take exit 8C and follow brown signs for AF Memorial. Sharp left onto the ramp to VA-27 W/Interstate 395 S. Use the right lane to merge onto VA-27 W/S Washington Blvd via the ramp to VA-244/Columbia Pike. Take a right onto Columbia Pike. Turn left at Air Force Memorial Drive

The Air Force Memorial is closed on Christmas Day.

Admission and parking are free.

 Are pets allowed at the Memorial?
Pets are not allowed at the Air Force Memorial except for service animals.
 Are there bathrooms at the Air Force Memorial?
The Air Force Memorial has handicap accessible bathrooms for visitor in the small building behind the Medal of Honor Wall. They are open during visiting hours.
 Can I eat at the Memorial?
Food and drink are prohibited at the Air Force Memorial. Visitors are encouraged to bring bottled water for events lasting more than an hour.
 Can I host a ceremony at the Memorial?
Members of the military, veteran organizations and the general public are welcome to host their events at the outdoor Air Force Memorial. Request to host your event here.
 Can I ride my bike to the Memorial?
You may bike to the Memorial.  We just ask that you walk with your bike once you enter the Memorial grounds as a sign of respect and for the safety of other visitors. 
 What does it cost to visit the Memorial?
The Air Force Memorial is free and open to the public.  Parking is also free, though limited.
 What other memorials or sites are near the Air Force Memorial?
The Air Force Memorial is located on a promontory overlooking the Pentagon and the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. It is a short walk to both of these sites.
