Chief Master Sgt. Scott A. Fuller brought together Air Force District of Washington's enlisted force during an enlisted call Sept. 24.

The AFDW command chief mostly talked about deliberate development and responsibilities all Airmen hold - be it within the physical fitness arena, dress and appearance, or professional and personal growth. The chief also answered questions and shared his perspective on applying for special duty assignments, becoming involved with professional military organizations and continuing relationships between Airmen and supervisors.

The chief echoed some of the messages Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III has said in recent forums. "Every Airman has a story," said Fuller. "It is important for first-line supervisors to really get to know what that is."

The command chief spoke about leading by example and how everyone has a responsibility to enforce standards. He is committed that AFDW will provide every Airman with every tool possible to learn and grow.

"The Air Force is trying to deliberately develop our senior NCOs," said Fuller. "And we're going to do the same here at AFDW."

These AFDW development tools include opportunities with the Capitol Airman program, the upcoming 360 Leadership Development program, seats on special projects and committees - including the upcoming annual awards banquet and heritage events - and involvement with professional organizations like the Top 3, Air Force Association, and Air Force Sergeants Association.

He also went on to discuss a few of the changes in how "big Air Force" is developing Airmen, including changes to enlisted professional military education requirements, the need to have a Community College of the Air Force degree prior to promotion to E-7 or above, and the opportunity to attend sister service PME courses and/or apply for special duty assignments.

Fuller said "everyone in this room is a leader," and encouraged visible face-to-face leadership from all.

He concluded with many thanks to the men and women of AFDW and their families for their contributions to the Air Force.

Air Force District of Washington is the single Air Force voice for planning and implementing Air Force and joint solutions within the National Capital Region. AFDW organizes, trains, equips and provides forces for Air and Space Expeditionary Force deployment, homeland operations and ceremonial support within the NCR and worldwide. One of the U.S. Air Force's five direct reporting units, the command is located on Joint Base Andrews, Md.
