Breast cancer awareness month is celebrated every October to raise awareness through the use of special events and public education.

As part of this effort, the 779th Medical Group, Women's Health Clinic, in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Support Group, will hold a speaker's forum on October 16 at 1 - 2:30pm in Café Malcolm at the Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center.

"The purpose of the event is to help educate patients and staff about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and prevention, and to offer comfort and support to those diagnosed or undergoing treatment," said Lisa Harrison, 779 MDG social worker.

Maj. (Dr.) Christina Franchetti, 779 MDG general surgeon, and Dr. LaRay Imani Price, 779 MDG psychologist, will discuss the clinical and psychological impact of breast cancer.

Members of the Breast Cancer Support Group will provide information about their monthly meetings, community involvement and leisure gatherings. In addition, several breast cancer survivors will be on hand to share their individual stories.

Free educational materials will be available and attendees can examine hands-on model displays.  There will be pink desserts for everyone and much fellowship.
