JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- Leadership from Joint Base Andrews, the Base Exchange and Baggette Construction broke ground during a ceremony next to the BX here, Nov. 17, 2015.

The construction is an expansion to the existing Army and Air Force Exchange Service BX facility, which was originally built in 1973. It will consolidate all services of the currently disjointed Exchange facilities and unify them in the same building.

"The expansion of the current facility will allow our Airmen and members of JBA to shop in a modern facility that meets their day-to-day shopping needs," said Col. Brad Hoagland, Joint Base Andrews and 11th Wing commander. "We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact this facility will have on Joint Base Andrews, the National Capitol Region and the retired community."

Once completed, the Home Traditions, Military Clothing, Satellite Pharmacy and support BX services will move to the new facility at the main BX. Additionally, Starbucks will move into this facility, as well as Boston Market, Arby's, Taco Bell and Charley's.

"We are upgrading and expanding the entire complex by bringing in new services to JBA and further enhancing the shopping experience by being a one-stop shop," said Tony Pares, JBA BX general manager. "We don't anticipate or plan for any services to be effected by the construction."

The construction will add an additional 60,000 square feet to the existing facility and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017.
