HQ AFDW congratulates Second Quarter Award Winners

Headquarters Air Force District of Washington Second Quarter Awards Ceremony recognized service members and civilians who distinguished themselves through personal and professional achievements. The ceremony was held July 26, 2010, at the Club, Andrews AFB, Md.

HQ AFDW outstanding performers for the second quarter are:

Airman 1st Class Mary K. Fifer, a Manpower and Personnel specialist with Command Support Staff was awarded Airman of the Quarter for meticulously processing and organizing more than 20 daily distribution products for 16 sections. She ensured that vital information was uploaded into the Military Personnel Data System and Case Management System to guarantee on-time Promotion Selection Board information was available for Airmen being considered for promotion.

Staff Sgt Leland T. Moseley of Manpower and Personnel Training and Assignments earned NCO of the Quarter for his work by processing 124 short notice out-of-cycle training requests and saved $310,000 in Air Force training dollars by filling vacant quotas. He also scheduled and uploaded 145 persons for mission readiness training increasing quota rate fills from 30 percent to 91 percent.

Master Sgt. Rena W. Banes, Superintendent Manpower and Personnel was recognized as the Senior NCO of the Quarter. Sgt Banes flawlessly managed and validated 450 Academic Advanced Degree requirements with 100 percent accuracy. She saved AFDW $891,000 in training dollars by auditing and eliminating 297 excess training quotas that were no longer required.

Vijuyanti Nasir was selected as the Civilian Category I award winner. Ms. Nasir is a contracting specialist assigned to AFDW Contracting office. She skillfully and flawlessly administered contracts valued over $60 million for the National Capital region. A stellar performer Ms. Nasir also facilitated negotiations for $5 million in contracts that saved the Air Force $75,000 in savings.

Cynthia D. Mimms is a financial analyst assigned to AFDW Financial Management earned the Civilian Category II of the Quarter.. Ms. Mimms skillfully managed 140 accounts valued at more than $6.5 billion with zero Anti-Deficiency Violations. She cleared Funds Management Notices in excess of $46 million dollars, trained 50 resource managers on processing fund target realignments and reduced funding management notices by 35 percent.

Kristine R. Ruiz, AFDW deputy chief of Accounting and Finance was recognized as the Civilian Category III. She meticulously executed the Accounting and Finance reimbursement program processing by assuring additional total obligation authority of $36 million was available for Air Force missions. Ms. Ruiz processed 160 Defense Transaction Interface Module vouchers valued at $22 million that enabled prompt local expense processing and no delays in payments.

Capt. Timothy L. Klark, chief AFDW Command Center earned Company Grade Officer of the Quarter. Captain Klark expertly oversaw more than $400,000 of classified Command and Control equipment ensuring that the Command Center was 100 percent operational at all times. He initiated planning requirements with Northern Command to optimize the newly acquired joint communications and tracking system, his actions improved AFDW and 320th Air Expeditionary Wing joint mission executions by allowing complete situation awareness on national leaders and their movement.

Master Sgt. Rena W. Barnes is the AFDW Military Volunteer of the Quarter winner. She volunteered 12 hours for Airman Against Drunk Driving as dispatcher-on-call and saved two lives. She also dedicated 7 hours to the Washington D.C. Special Olympics. A positive Air Force representative, she inspired more than150 students during Malcolm Elementary Career Day.

The next HQ AFDW Quarterly Awards luncheon is scheduled for Oct. 20, 2010.
