Air Force District of Washington's Combined Federal Campaign kicked off Sept. 26, offering federal civilians and military members the opportunity to contribute to more than 2,000 pre-screened charities.

Maj. Gen. Darren McDew launched the command's annual CFC drive during a kick-off ceremony Sept. 23 at the Joint Base Andrews Theater, talking to the standing-room only crowd of military and civilians about the world's largest workplace giving campaign.
"You all made a decision to serve, this is just another way to serve," McDew said. "The CFC makes it easy for you."

More than $6 billion has been raised by the CFC since its inception in 1961; including $294,824.09 raised by AFDW members during last year's campaign.

With more than 5,000 military and civilians assigned to AFDW, leadership is confident the command can meet this year's $348,500 goal, according to Lt Col. Gregory Anderson, AFDW's campaign manager.

The 2011 CFC campaign will continue through Nov. 4.

Since 1971, CFC has been the sole authorized workplace charitable campaign for the federal service. CFC administrators and volunteers reach potential donors through more than 200 local organizations, and givers may contribute via cash, check, or payroll deduction. Pledge forms are available through unit coordinators.
