Air Force officials have recognized sustained superior performance and outstanding contributions from one of Air Force District of Washington's own Maj. David L. Weide, 844th Communications Group director of operations, Joint Base Andrews, Md.

Weide was awarded the annual Gen. John P. Jumper Award. The award is based on the integration of Air Force warfighting or operations support capabilities that shorten the kill chain or enhance the decision cycle.

"As stated by Gen. Colin Powell, 'If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters,' said Col. Anthony Thomas, Air Force District of Washington and 844th Communications Group commander. 'Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.' Maj. Weide epitomizes these words in all his actions."

Some of Weide's accomplishments include orchestrating a $27,000,000 ultra high frequency truck installation to integrate Kabul emergency responders. He was second and most junior advisor on a team that formed an Afghan National Police team from the ground up. He co-developed the Afghan Ministry of Interior, the equivalent to the U.S. State Department, annual spend-plan, which went on to be the only department to successfully execute its $140 million budget on time.

Weide commanded more than 70 missions outside the wire in a high-threat kinetic engagement area, providing command and control development support to ANP during Kabul's deadliest year. He revived a dormant Requirements Review Board that established a focused ANP radio fielding plan for warfighters.

"He is an officer with an outstanding attitude who leads from the front and empowers his team to succeed," said Thomas. "He is an Airman to follow because he will be a senior cyber leader in the future."
