Air Force District of Washington Commander Maj. Gen. Sharon K. G. Dunbar held a commander's call at the base theater Nov. 5 on Joint Base Andrews, Md., to introduce her expectations and goals for AFDW in 2013 and recognize two Airmen for their accomplishments while serving overseas.

Expectations set by Dunbar included exemplifying high standards that others can follow, executing missions with precision and pride, taking care of Airmen and their families, working and living productively and seeking to better understand one another.

"All eyes are on AFDW as the major command for the Air Force in the National Capital Region," said Dunbar. "Folks are looking at what we do for so many reasons - and you are setting the standard. Whether you realize it or not, you set the bar very high and others are following your lead. I ask that you continue to be those positive standard setters."

Dunbar emphasized the importance of teamwork and expressed her gratitude for the work being done by AFDW personnel.

"Camaraderie, teamwork, working hard, maintaining a sense of humor, and taking care of one another are all important," said Dunbar. "You demonstrate these traits each day, which is why AFDW is such a great place to work. You've got the can-do attitude, the talent and the capabilities, and are making big things happen like no other command I've seen."

Additionally, two Airmen from AFDW headquarters staff received medals during the commander's call.

Staff Sgt. Dominick Streeter, AFDW Operations Directorate, was presented the Air Force Commendation Medal for his accomplishments while stationed at Kunsan Air Base, Korea, and Senior Airman Loren Farnam, AFDW Contracting, was presented the Joint Service Commendation Medal for his recent deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Following the general's talk, the AFDW headquarters staff directors presented their top priorities, daily challenges and accomplishments. Other items emphasized during the call included winter weather, driving safety and sexual assault prevention.
