JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- The Air Force District of Washington released its Strategic Plan that defines the Commander’s vision from now through 2028. The plan defines strategic imperatives, goals and objectives to move the organization to a desired future state.
The purposeful alignment of the AFDW Strategic Plan to the Air Force’s strategy solidifies resource allocation and supports AFDW’s budget requests to the Air Force core functional leads.
“Strategic plans focus on events in the future; strategic actions get us there,” said Maj. Gen. Joel Jackson, AFDW commander. “By aligning AFDW’s priorities and resources to meet imperatives, we will be able to organize, train, equip, and deploy expeditionary combat support forces for homeland support and worldwide Air and Space Expeditionary Forces in support of combatant commanders and presidential directives.”
The mission set for AFDW includes support to the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, NCR partners, NORTHCOM mission, as well as combatant commanders around the world.
The plan set a vision, mission, and strategic imperatives:
- The AFDW Vision is “Ready Airmen, Renowned for Excellence, Worldwide”
- The Mission is, Deliver Contingency Response, Render Ceremonial Honors and Provide Operations Support across the Nation’s Capital and Worldwide”
- The Strategic Imperatives are
- Leverage Modernization to Maximize Mission Set
- Refocus Investment in Airmen to create a more agile, flexible and ready force
- Strengthen and clarify operational support authorities to forecast support to local and global operations
Through 2028, teams and directorates will use the strategic plan as a guide for prioritizing the workload across the organization and for assigning resources to missions.
This new plan also incorporates the evolving responsibilities of AFDW, with the realignment of JBAB as an AFDW installation and the growing responsibilities of the 844th Communications Group.
“Through the transformative and bold initiatives implemented from this plan we hope to inspire a new generation and creatively shape the AFDW of 2028,” Jackson said. “This will lead to more resilient, equipped, and trained Airmen who will continue to make our command the most reliable service component in the NCR, and the most responsive warfighters for the global mission.”
