Doolittle Raider laid to rest

Family members and friends pay their respect to Maj. Gen. David M. Jones, one of the historic Doolittle Raiders, during a full-honors funeral June 19 at Arlington National Cemetery, Va. The general served more than 40 years in the military but was most recognized for his actions from 1942 when he volunteered for the Doolittle Project. During the training phase of this project, he flew the initial evaluation flights on B-25 aircraft specially equipped for the mission. After the Doolittle raid on Tokyo, he bailed out over China. The Chinese people assisted him in returning to the United States. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his participation as a flight commander in the planning, training and completion of the Doolittle raid on Tokyo.
