Capt. Daniel Ramirez, a pilot with the 1st Helicopter Squadron at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., flags a clean helicopter into the “landing zone” – a vacant Pentagon parking lot that had been coated in a simulated biological agent. The clean helicopter and its pilots were later swabbed to measure how contaminated they became as a result of the rotor wash. AFDW Airmen worked with 18 different state and federal agencies assisting the Pentagon Force Protection Agency in an Operational Response Test that took place July 11 on the Pentagon Reservation. The test was designed to provide first responders with information on the best methods to decontaminate people following a biological attack.
