AIR FORCE DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON - 79th Medical Wing Commander Maj. Gen. Gerard Caron (left) and Air Force District of Washington Commander Maj. Gen. Darren McDew (right) congratulate the AFDW CBRNE team on earning second place in the Air Force-wide "CBRNE Challenge" held at the Center for National Response in Gallagher, W.Va. The Air Force hosts this annual event to ensure that Air Force Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive Response Units maintain full operational capability, while fostering a sense of professional rivalry between Major Commands. CBRNE Challenge is a full-scale training event held at the CNR. The training venue provides teams with the opportunity to demonstrate how they would respond by using realistic scenarios, live threats and a variety of training environments not available anywhere else. This year, 10 teams competed. The AFDWS team consisted of five individuals hailing from the Pentagon and several AFDW units. They were: Maj. Michael Fea, 779th Medical Group bio-environmental engineer officer; Senior Airman Chris Kurban, 779th Medical Group bio-environmental engineer technician; Senior Airman Adam Harris, 579th Medical Group bio-environmental engineer technician; Staff Sgt. Danielle Clements 11th Civil Engineering Squadron emergency management technician; and, Tech. Sgt. Jason Blair, emergency management technician with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.
