AFDW/CC visits AFMAO

Maj. Gen. Darren McDew, Air Force District of Washington commander, speaks with Col. Thomas C. Joyce, Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations commander, during a visit to Dover Air Force Base, Del. Sept. 8. The general visited the center, part of AFDW's unique mission of operational support to units around the globe, to learn more about The Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs. AFMAO's mission is ensuring dignity, honor and respect to the fallen; and care, service and support to their families. A solemn dignified transfer of remains is conducted upon arrival at Dover Air Force Base, Del., to honor those who have given their lives in the service of the country. The fallen then moves to the Port Mortuary at the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs. Once positively identified, fallen service members are prepared for transport to their final destination as determined by the family. (U.S. Air Force photo/ Staff Sgt. Agustin Salazar)
