AFDW civilian selected for 2 distinct honors Published Feb. 27, 2014 By Michael P. Kleiman Air Force District of Washington Public Affairs JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- Lori Lloyd, a 14-year career federal government employee currently serving as branch chief, Installation Support, AFDW's Contracting Directorate, Joint Base Andrews, Md., recently received double distinctions. She became one of only 12 Air Force personnel serving in the grades GS-14 and GS-15 to be selected for the annual Civilian Strategic Leadership Program and then Lloyd also earned admission to the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy (formerly known as the Industrial College of the Armed Forces), Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. Established as an avenue for available, experienced leaders to meet future mission needs, the CSLP provides participants with two-to three-year in-length impact opportunities at the functional, Air Force and Department of Defense level. Similarly, the 10-month course, comprised of selected military and civilian personnel, focuses on strategic leadership and formulating our national security strategy, as well as examining, compiling, and directing resources towards a successful execution of that plan. "I am complimented and very humbled concerning the concurrent selection to the Eisenhower School and CSLP," Lloyd said. "I look for opportunities to grow professionally and personally, as well as to give back to the Air Force." Leadership has been Lloyd's calling since graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in social work from Weber State University, Ogden, Utah. After working in a domestic violence shelter for 12 to 18 months, she opted for a career change courtesy of the Air Force's COPPER CAP program, which hires Contract Specialists only beginning at the GS-7 grade level with potential advancement to GS-12. During her 13-year stint serving at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Lloyd held several contracting positions and also worked as the director of the base's Small Business Programs for almost two years. While employed at Hill, she advanced to the GS-14 pay grade and also obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix campus in Ogden. Since arriving at JBA in January 2013, Lloyd has been employed in two different positions with ADFW's Contracting Directorate, with the most recent job change occurring in November 2013. Within the initial month of her new PCS assignment, she applied for both the Eisenhower School and CSLP. At both duty locations, senior leaders support has been a critical component in Lloyd's career progression. "Since joining our organization 13 months ago, Lori has excelled leading the Contracting Programs and Installation Support Branches. Her selection to participate in the Eisenhower School and the Civilian Strategic Leadership Program testifies to her current and future leadership abilities," said Col. Kurt Bergo, director, AFDW's Contracting Directorate. "Her professionalism, pride and positive approach have benefitted both our customers and staff." Lloyd plans to attend the Eisenhower School first beginning in August followed by her participation in the CSLP. She remains confident that the CSLP assignment will transpire during her time as a student, but if it does not, her name will be placed on a list to fill one of 70 positions allotted to the senior civilian program. Regardless, Lloyd will pursue meeting (and exceeding) the next challenges. "I set goals early in my career such as accomplishing the appropriate professional military education. I have completed Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College. The next step was the Eisenhower School and CSLP. I was selected for both honors concurrently," Lloyd said. "My recommendation to both military and civilian members is to start early in growing your career - map it out. Do not give up and keep trudging along. We all have to prove ourselves on a daily basis."
