Senior Airman Chelsea Jordan, Air Force District of Washington Financial Management accounting technician, is an AFDW Capital Airman. The native of Detroit was recently named the 2013 AFDW Headquarters Military Volunteer of the Year.

Why did you decide to join the Air Force? I chose to join the Air Force because I wanted to do something honorable and be a part of something great. I also desired to learn a technical skill and earn my bachelor's degree in marketing.

What is your job and how does that impact the AFDW mission? As an AFDW Financial Management accounting technician I help provide accounting services to more than 350 resource managers in the National Capital Region. I support the second largest Air Force accounting portfolio at $11 billion. Thus supporting the AFDW mission of contingency response, ceremonial honors and operational support across the Nation's capital and worldwide.

What has been your most memorable or rewarding Air Force experience? I've had many memorable moments while serving on active duty. When I was an Airman, I had the opportunity to meet retired Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Norton A Swartz while he was the key speaker at the Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, 2011 Annual Awards Banquet.

Why are you so involved in the local community? I volunteer because I love to help others. I've been very fortunate in my life. I am extremely grateful for everything I have and the person I've become. There are many people who have contributed to my success and if I can give back to just one person, I'm happy. I've devoted time to ministry outreach programs that assist woman and children in their time of need. I've enjoyed visiting local nursing homes and the local elementary schools, mentoring and reading to children. I've coached girls basketball. I've personally organized and participated in feeding the hungry of D.C. I've also dedicated time to on-base activities like Airman Against Drunk Driving and assisted with several unit activities to include morale events and retirements.
