Senior Airman Matt Little, Air Force District of Washington contract specialist, is an AFDW Capital Airman. Little was recently selected for the Enlisted-To-Medical Preparatory Degree Program. He will complete the preparatory coursework for admission to medical school while maintaining his active duty status during the pre-med program. He will be assigned to the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.

Why did you choose to become part of the Air Force family? I was working on becoming a full-time firefighter and thought the military experience would help me achieve that long-term goal. I also wanted to travel and finish my bachelor's degree.

What is your job and how does that impact the AFDW mission? I work on the team that executes service contracts for the offices of Headquarters Air Force and the Secretary of the Air Force, supporting Air Force-wide missions. We also support the 844th Communications Group and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

What has been your most memorable or rewarding Air Force experience? My most memorable Air Force experience was being part of the Air Force cordon at the presidential inauguration in January 2013. It was freezing cold and a long day, but when the president drove by and waved, I thought, not everyone gets this opportunity so I'm fortunate to be able to participate.

What were the selection and application processes for the Enlisted-To-Medical Preparatory Degree Program? I found out about the program through an email sent out by leadership. I've always been interested in medicine; I have several family members in the medical field and back to my days of firefighting and emergency medicine, I just never had an opportunity as great as this. I read through the requirements and realized I met all of them except that I needed to have a recent American College Testing score, which I then went and took. I had a ton of help from my supervisor all the way up through the chain of command to include the AFDW commander and command chief.
