AFDW 2014 Logistics Readiness Forum

The Air Force District of Washington Logistics, Installations and Mission Support directorate, also known as A4, hosted the 2014 Logistics Readiness Forum for career field managers and logistics leaders to discuss joint service programs and support.
The speakers shared information about the Joint Forces Head Quarters National Capital Region Logistics mission and the event featured a panel discussion to answer career field questions.

The 2014 Logistics Readiness Forum which took place at the Gen. Jacob E. Smart Centre where speakers discussed a variety of topics concerning the career field. Logisticians from the Joint Forces Headquarters-National Capital Region Logistics staff, Headquarters Air Force Logistics staff, 11th Mission Support Group, 11th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 89th Aerial Port Squadron, Defense Logistics Agency, and Air Force Special Program Office, all participated in the event.

In addition, logistics specialists from various major commands located at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, participated via video teleconferencing. Some of the topics logistics leaders covered included leadership, base support installation processes, career field managers' perspectives and the JFHQ-NCR/J4 mission.

"We thought it would be beneficial to logisticians assigned within the National Capital Region to interact with Headquarters United States Air Force Logistics policy makers and hopefully gain some insight on the future of the Air Force Logistics career fields," said Daniel Colter, AFDW traffic management manager.

Joint Logistics leaders used this opportunity to discuss plans and programs to enhance National Capital Region security and provide logistical support for the Department of Defense design forum. One of the main goals was to ensure attendees understand the joint logistics support available to them when they collaborate on programs used by the JFHQ-NCR/J4 and DOD.

"Logistics is the backbone of any successful operation., "said Lynda Lowin, AFDW A4/7D deputy director.

Lowin opened the event by welcoming everyone and providing the agenda. She also stressed the importance of what logistics personnel contribute to the mission.

"(We provide) the ability to get the right people, equipment and resources to the right place at the right time to affect desired outcomes," she said.
