Tech. Sgt. Roxanne Ollison, Air Force District of Washington NCOIC of Ceremonies and Protocol, is an AFDW Capital Airman. Ollison was recently selected as the AFDW NCO of the quarter.

Why did you choose to join the Air Force? I dropped out of college and I could not stay home with my parents, so I decided to go into the military. After talking to other service recruiters I decided that the Air Force was the best fit for me.

What is your job and how does that impact the AFDW mission? I work in the visiting general officer program. We enforce Air Force Instruction 36-2901, which states all Air Force active duty general officers will stay on base as long as space is available. We also provide transportation for general officers. We provide support for every general visiting the National Capital Region, be it Army, Navy, Marines or Air National Guard. We save the Air Force millions of dollars each year by providing support for general officers and their staff.

What has been your most memorable or rewarding military experience? It has been coming home from deployment in uniform while people cheer for you and hug you. To us it's our a job and we do it without thinking, but to others, it's so much more and it's the best feeling ever to feel like you made a difference.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would like to thank the people I work with for making me a better person. It means so much to actually feel like you have a family in your work center. Christine Bickel never let me give up even though I sat in her office and threw in the towel at least once a week. Betsy Adams also encouraged me with her mentorship and guidance. Hard work will always win in the end.
