Staff Sgt. Justin McCarty, 744th Communications Squadron cable and antenna systems maintenance technician, is an Air Force District of Washington Capital Airman. McCarty, a native of Meridian, Mississippi, was recently selected to become a recruiter through the Developmental Special Duty program.

Why did you choose to join the Air Force? I joined the Air Force in 2005 for the educational opportunities.

What is your job and how does that impact the AFDW mission? I conduct cable and antenna systems maintenance; provide communications maintenance support for presidential and special air missions; and support two headquarters, six wings, and 84 tenant units.

What has been your most memorable or rewarding Air Force experience? One of the most memorable experiences I have from my Air Force career was being asked to be the sole climbing trainer and certifier for U.S. Air Forces in Europe.  I was tasked to bounce around USAFE training host bases communications squadrons on the proper climbing and rescue procedures.
