Elizabeth Ortiz 11th Wing Public Affairs BOLLING AIR FORCE BASE, D.C. -- The Air Force District of Washington, which will reactivate at Bolling Jan. 1, 2005, will first stand up provisionally, the 11th Wing commander announced to the wing staff Dec. 13.This provisional status will facilitate an initial operational capability and enable a transitional period to full operational capability in July 2005."Here's where we are now," said Col. Duane A. Jones, the wing commander, who initially announced the reactivation of AFDW at a wing-wide commander's call Nov 22. "We think it best to first stand up this basic structure and then immediately call upon some subject-matter experts to flesh out the organizational details."During the six-month transition period, the wing will start out as a dual-hatted AFDW/11th Wing structure on Jan. 1, 2005, and then migrate to a stand-alone AFDW and a stand-alone 11th Wing by July."For the vast majority of our people, it's business as usual as we figure out the important questions and right answers in the transition period," said Colonel Jones, who will serve as both AFDW and 11th Wing commander from initial to full operational capability."This is our opportunity to get this new warfighting capability organized, and we look forward to the challenge," he said.A reactivation ceremony for the wing highlighting initial operational capability will take place in early January at Bolling.
