AFDW 4th Quarter award winners announced

Air Force District of Washington announced its 4th Quarter Award winners during a luncheon Jan. 22 at The Club on Andrews. The winners, who were honored for their performances from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2008, are: 

· Airman of the Quarter - Airman 1st Class Tiffany Miles, AFDW/CCK
· NCO of the Quarter - Tech. Sgt. Selinda M. Montgomery, AFDW/CCEA
· Senior NCO of the Quarter - Master Sgt. Michelle L. Getman, AFDW A3/5
· Company Grade Officer of the Quarter - Capt. Meglena Hristov, AFDW/JA
· Civilian of the Quarter (CAT II) - Mr. Phillip A. Henry, AFDW/A8AO-P
· Civilian of the Quarter (CAT III) - Ms. Jennifer N. Weatherly, AFDW/A6PRM
· Volunteer of the Quarter - Tech. Sgt. Amanda M. Gravely, AFDW/A8AO-B

Airman of the Quarter
Airman Miles earned her award for her work in the Knowledge Operations Center. She managed an in-processing program that supports more than 200 headquarters staff members and executed five joint command exercises. She also tracked 75 staff summery sheets, 50 evaluations and 75 correspondences - all with 100 percent accountability. In her off time Airman Miles took her collage placement test, and volunteers as a singer and dancer with the Andrews Air Force Base Gospel Choir.

NCO of the Quarter
Technical Sergeant Montgomery is the AFDW Executive Services NCOIC and manages a budget of more than $230,000 and oversees the government purchase card program and supports more than 300 staff personnel. She also authored a headquarters Enlisted Performance Report writing guide that reduced EPR processing time from 72 hours to 48 hours. She also reviewed more than 50 staff packages, 25 evaluations and 30 decorations this quarter, guaranteeing that AFDW global warfighters received the recognition they deserved.

Senior NCO of the Quarter
As the NCOIC for the AFDW A3/5 Special Missions Division, Master Sergeant Getman created a command center reference book on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear response. Her work equipped senior leaders with a vital decision-making tool to use during contingency response operations. She also revised the CBRN Response Force playbook and institutionalized standard command response force tactics, techniques and processes. Sergeant Getman also crafted the first-ever AFDW supplement for CBRN Response Force training and reporting requirements, preparing the command to meet CBRN threats in the NCR. After hours, she led the AFDW Top-3 effort to raise more than $1,000 to purchase holiday gifts for more than 30 disabled veterans.

Company Grade Officer of the Quarter
Assistant Staff Judge Advocate Captain Hristov volunteered to fill a six-month shortfall deployment for an AFDW Wing and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. While deployed, she expertly drafted initial disposition recommendations for more than 500 detainees. She was hand-picked as liaison to Iraqi judges and made weekly trips to a forward operating base. The captain dedicated her free time to learning basic Arabic language and also researched and gained extensive understanding of current Iraqi judicial system and laws. She also completed a critical four-hour, hands-on EOD training course to gain acute understanding of explosive devices

Civilian of the Quarter (CAT II)
Mr. Henry is an accounting dynamo. His dedicated work ethic and undaunted efforts allowed Headquarters Air Force to achieve execute the FY09 1st Quarter budget. He rapidly validated more than 1,300 funding requirements valued at more than $38 million during 1st quarter with 100 percent accuracy. He also created a unique tracking method that impacts the entire Air Force. After hours, Mr. Henry is an unsung community hero, mentoring and teaching area youth, participating in numerous charities, and providing support for church events.

Civilian of the Quarter (CAT III)
Ms. Weatherly created business rules to facilitate electronic records management and helped shape developing AF guidance and processes. She is a known expert who was sought out by AF Weather Agency to assist in its Unit Compliance Inspection. Ms. Weatherly provided key documents to AFWA and set the organization up for a successful inspection. After hours, Ms. Weatherly organized an A8 Wingman event attended by more than 200 Airmen. She also volunteers throughout the community.

Volunteer of the Quarter
While volunteering at Walter Reed Medical Hospital, AFDW Volunteer of the Quarter Sergeant Gravely delivered phone cards to the wounded and sick soldiers. She also donated and provided assistance to a local Goodwill organization, donating special hand-made blankets and other clothing needed. She also volunteered her time visiting retirees living at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, where she assisted in cleaning and organizing the area and decorating for Christmas. Her caring efforts brought joy to over 1,000 residents.

The AFDW Annual Awards luncheon will be held Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Prince George's Room at The Club on Andrews.
