January was a busy month for the men and women of the Air Force District of Washington as they lived up to their motto "Superior Service, Military Support and Contingency Response" in support of the 56th Presidential Inauguration from Jan. 15-24, to honor the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

To thank those Airmen and civilians who helped make all inaugural events a success, Maj. Gen. Ralph Jodice, AFDW commander, handed out several "commander's coins" during an AFDW-wide commander's call held Feb. 6 at the Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Community Center.

The general thanked all AFDW members for their dedicated support, and said credit for the overall mission success of the 26 inaugural events went to the men and women of AFDW. More than 1,400 Airmen participated in the inaugural events, including the opening ceremony, the presidential swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural parade, the parade cordon, and 10 inaugural balls. Airmen also provided medical support throughout the inaugural period and were on standby around-the-clock to provide support to civil authorities if required.
