The Green Knights Motorcycle Club will meet Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. in building 1442, the Sports Page, on Andrews Air Force Base, Md., to kick-start the 2009 riding season. The Green Knights, a military motorcycle club, was formed in 1999 and formally recognized in early 2000 at McGuire AFB, N.J.

"The Green Knights promote awareness to motorcyclist and discuss issues of the base, fight for biker rights, help each other and go on rides," said Tech. Sgt. Chris M. Orbits, 11th Wing Safety Office. "Most of all they enjoy their bikes and share a common interest."

The Green Knights started slowly, but continue to see a growing trend, not just within the Air Force, but across all armed services.

"Our by-laws, policies and mentorship outlines have become the basis of the current Air Force policy to have a motorcycle club on every base," said Eric Parker, 316th Civil Engineer Squadron and GKMC president. "Currently there are almost 50 chapters, but this club is here for you; it is yours."

The motorcycle club is for the entire base populace with members ranging from Airmen to retirees and dependents to Department of Defense civilians. Members are asked to ride safe and have fun.

"The Green Knights work hand in hand with the wing safety office and security forces to help riders retain their rights and still follow the regulations of the Air Force," said Mr. Parker. "The Green Knights stand for safety. Our safety director keeps the club updated on DOD, Department of Transportation, and local changes to traffic regulations."
