The contract to build a new Air Force administration facility has been awarded, with construction to begin in June 2009 on Andrews Air Force Base, Md.

Planned tenants include the AFDW and 316th Wing staffs, as well as more than 2,000 Air Force personnel displaced as a result of BRAC 2005 and antiterrorism and force protection standards.

Total estimated construction cost for the new facility is $114.3 million. The new building will be five stories high, with two wings, more than 380,000 square feet of space and 1,202 parking spaces. It also will meet antiterrorism/ force protection, security, SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility), and court room requirements, and be 30 percent energy efficient to meet Energy Policy Act 2005 guidelines.

Through early start design packages, pre-manufactured building components, and the use of multiple warehouses, the facility will be built within the required 24-month construction schedule.

The building project is expected to be completed in February 2011.
