The Air Force District of Washington is proud to announce the dates for the 2009 Air Force Cycling Classic, taking place May 30-31 in Arlington, Va.

The USAF Cycling Classic offers cycling enthusiasts of all abilities the opportunity to participate in this National Capital Region signature event.

The two-day event begins May 30 with the "CSC Invitational," a series of amateur and professional criterium races at the Clarendon Metro stop in Arlington, Va.

On May 31, cycling enthusiasts of all abilities will challenge themselves during the "Crystal Ride," taking place from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Crystal Ride is a non-competitive event that starts and ends in Crystal City and passes by the Air Force Memorial. This race offers a 12.5 kilometer course that is closed to traffic but open to both serious and casual amateur cyclists. Bronze, silver and gold medals will be awarded for those who complete 2, 4 or 8 laps within the 3.5 hour ride window. The entry fee for the Crystal Ride is $35 ($25 for active duty, Guard and Reserve service members).

Each rider will receive an event T-shirt, timing chip and participation award medal.
Following the Crystal Ride, cycling teams and sprinters from the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy and West Point will compete for bragging rights in the "Service Academy Shoot-Out," a two-part competition.

The featured event - the Air Force Cycling Classic "Men's Pro Circuit Race" - kicks off at noon and features top U.S. and international teams, completing 14-and-a-half laps on the 12.5 kilometer circuit, finishing in Crystal City.

Finally, the "Kids Race" begins at 12:05 p.m. on Crystal Drive in Arlington, Va. This free event is open to children 9 and younger. All children must have their own bicycles (Big Wheels and training wheels are allowed) and helmets must be worn.
