AFDW participates in 'Warm Up to Giving' food drive Published July 22, 2009 By Benjamin Newell 11th Wing Public Affairs NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION -- Food collection sites have been set up at locations throughout Bolling Air Force Base, D.C. and Andrews AFB, Md. to support the National Capital Region's effort to collect 1 million pounds of food for the Feds Feed Families organization. The food drive was set up to address this summer's urgent need for assistance to the community's families. Food banks across the National Capital Region and around the country are facing severe shortages of non-perishable items. Simultaneously, summer vacation leaves more children without school nutrition programs. Non-perishable food can be dropped off at the Bolling Base Exchange, Commissary, main Chapel, Shopette, Child Development Center, Youth Center, Blanchard Barracks and the Wing Headquarters building P-20. Andrews has collection points at the second floor rotunda of building 1535, the Finance Customer Service Lobby (building 1535, room D-101), the West Fitness Center, Hangar 1, 457th AS (building 1420), the 459th, Security Forces Squadron, the Home Goods store, and the Base Exchange and Commissary. For a list of the most wanted food items requested click here. The National Capital Region has a 100 percent contact goal. Airmen are encouraged to bring their donations and spread the word to coworkers. Washington D.C. area food banks are facing severe shortages of non-perishable goods. While demand has soared, the economic crisis has also dried up contributions. The Capital Area Food Bank serves more than 700 food pantries, soup kitchens and other service organizations in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland. Contributing to this centralized repository helps feed area families and communities. For more information or to volunteer at Bolling, e-mail Katherine Windish or Susan Moreno, or call 202-767-4781. 2nd Lt. Sheridan Martinez is the contact point at Andrews AFB.
