Ceremonial guardsmen accompany president to G-20 Summit Published Oct. 2, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Katherine Windish 11th Wing Public Affairs BOLLING AFB, D.C. -- The third G-20 Summit was hosted by President Barrack Obama at Pittsburgh's David L. Lawrence Convention Center Sept. 24 through 25. President Obama chaired the meeting of world leaders that represented 85 percent of the world's economy. At the Pittsburgh G-20 Summit, leaders reviewed the progress made since the Washington and London Summits, and together they discussed further actions to assure a sound and sustainable recovery from the global financial and economic crisis. Thirteen Bolling Airmen from the United States Air Force Honor Guard provided support to the summit. Bolling Airmen, along with servicemembers from all military service honor guards participated as color guards and cordons in foreign heads of state and heads of government arrivals, as well as, the welcome ceremony held by President Obama at the Phipp's Conservatory. "The Honor Guard is around dignitaries every day," said Senior Airman William Banton, Honor Guard ceremonial guardsman. "But, to see that many world leaders in one place - I was awestruck. It was an unbelievable event to be a part of, that I would never have experienced in another career field." "As always, we're very proud of the representation from the Air Force Honor Guard," said Lt. Col. Raymond Powell, Honor Guard commander. "The members are often in a unique position to witness history in the making."
