H1N1 vaccines for DoD late to arrive

The arrival date for the mandatory H1N1 vaccine is now forecasted for early November for active duty military members. The Department of Defense previously announced the availability of H1N1 vaccine in mid-October.

Upon receipt of the H1N1 vaccine, the following groups will be given the vaccinations first: Deployed or hard-tasked personnel, ships afloat, military health care providers, training sites (BMTs, academies), military serving in overseas locations, and mission-essential military, civilians and contractors.

Some individual Military Treatment Facilities in the continental United States have begun receiving vaccine for their family members and retirees from the Centers for Disease Control. When MTFs within the National Capital Region receive their H1N1 vaccine, Airmen will be notified via their chain of command, and through Public Affairs channels. Military family members should contact their Primary Care Provider to determine availability of the vaccine locally, as availability will vary.

Military government civilians and contractors who are not listed as "mission essential" must contact their private health care providers to receive the vaccine.
