2010 Air Force Cycling Classic dates announced Published March 10, 2010 By AFDW Public Affairs AIR FORCE DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON -- Air Force District of Washington is proud to announce the dates for the 2010 Air Force Cycling Classic, which takes place June 12-13 in Arlington, Va. The two-day format will continue the Classic's tradition of providing greater opportunities for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities to participate in this National Capital Region signature event. The weekend's events begin Saturday, June 12, with the Air Force Cycling Classic Clarendon Cup, the criterium race that highlights the famous 1km course around the Clarendon Metro. The day's featured Men's Pro race begins shortly after noon and will again include some of the top professionals in the sport of cycling. Sunday, June 13, cycling enthusiasts of all abilities will be able to ride on the Air Force Cycling Challenge's Crystal Ride. Participants can ride up to three-and-a-half hours on the car-free, 12.5km course. Following this amateur ride, the Men's and Women's Professionals will race again, with most of the nation's top cyclists expected to be in attendance. "The U.S. Air Force is excited to see the growth of this event as the premier cycling event in the National Capital Region. We're also excited to see it becoming a challenging part of the national cycling circuit," said Maj. Gen. Darrell D. Jones, AFDW commander. "As a community partner in the NCR, we are proud to offer two-days of world-class events for professionals and amateurs. We hope everyone will come out and join 'their' United States Air Force in this premier cycling classic, focused on riders of all ages and abilities, and their families." Participants in the Air Force Cycling Challenge Crystal Ride will again be able to earn a gold medal by completing 8 laps in under three-and-a-half hours.
