Members of the board of directors for the Conseil International du Sport Militaire met this week at the Bolling Air Force Base for a weeklong conference to discuss and plan for future Armed Forces sporting events.

During the week, many organizations from the base supported the various events.

"It was definitely a team effort that included support organizations from throughout the base," Bobby McCullough, Joint Base Morale, Welfare and Recreation, said. "It's a privilege to provide services for an event that will shape the military's relationship with so many countries. As we merge with the Navy's assets for joint basing, our staff and equipment will only improve and ensure top-notch events every time. "

In addition to the club and billeting staff, other agencies involved came from the 744th Communications Squadron, Air Force District of Washington and 11th Wing Protocol offices, 11th Security Forces Squadron, 11th Civil Engineering Squadron, 579th Medical Group, The Air Force Band, U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and AFDW A1.

"Providing perfect communications for an event of this magnitude is a job we don't take lightly," Capt. Gerald Kemp, 744th Communications Squadron, said. "It's what we do."

Members from the 744th CS handled all communication requirements, everything from ensuring that interpreters were heard by CISM board members to working microphones for the press conference.

CISM directors from 20 countries represent an organization of 132 national militaries. CISM was founded Feb. 18, 1948 with Belgium, Denmark, France and Luxembourg and the Netherlands representatives signing the original charter.

"Participation in CISM provides a vital link for the United States to be engaged with countries around the globe in a positive manner, and sometimes the only venue to engage certain countries in a military-to-military fashion," Suba Saty, Armed Forces Sports secretariat, said.

The next CISM Military World Games are slated for Brazil in July 2011.
