Friends, supporters, cemetery staff and members of the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard gathered at the Arlington National Cemetery Visitors Center this morning to witness the unveiling of artist Gary Schofield's work "The Arlington National Cemetery Painting."

Schofield's painting depicts members of the Air Force Honor Guard ceremoniously marching through the McClellan Arch as part of a funeral procession at Arlington.

Superintendent John C. Metzler, Jr. welcomed the guests gathered for the event. Metzler spoke to the cemetery's importance in our nation's history and how paintings, like Schofield's "The Arlington National Cemetery Painting," visually preserve that importance.

Schofield's remarks mirrored Metzler's sentiments.

"The dignity and honor of this country is self-evident," said Schofield in his remarks, when he spoke of visiting Arlington National Cemetery.

The painting is a gift from Schofield to the cemetery and hangs near the information desk in the lobby of the Visitors Center.
