Senior Airman Anna M. Wasson, 11th Operations Group, was awarded the United Service Organization Military Leadership Award at the USO's annual Woman of the Year ceremony April 30 in New York City.

"Airman Wasson is an exceptional woman who has distinguished herself through tireless commitment and dedication to her service, family and community," said Chief Master Sgt. Daniel Jacobs, 11th OG superintendent.

While primarily assigned as a knowledge operations manager for the 11th Operations Group at Bolling AFB, Airman Wasson managed 960 trouble tickets, providing customer service to 427 members of the 11th OG. She executed the first Air Force Personnel Accountability System exercise, providing senior leaders an accurate accountability picture for 1,072 wing personnel. Airman Wasson also assisted with the mobility and tracking for more than 300 Airmen during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. She overhauled the officer and enlisted promotion records and decoration programs for the 11th OG, raising the group to a 99 percent on-time completion rate.

"She's very deserving of the award," said Chief Jacobs. "In the last year Airman Wasson deployed to a combat zone, improved the group's administrative processes, assisted in the community and still found time to be a mom and a spouse."

While assigned to the 62nd Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron during deployment to Southwest Asia from April to October 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, the 62nd ERS was successful in completing 3,043 unmanned aerial flight missions without incident as a result of Airman Wasson's management of 31 unmanned aerial vehicle systems and 54 user accounts. Airman Wasson was also identified as the lead technician tasked to install $1 million worth of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance software on 28 computers. This contributed to 1,584 intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions and providing information to military commanders and national security leaders, helping them maintain combat capability.

In her off-duty time, Airman Wasson volunteered in her community both while deployed and at her home base.

"Community service is a joy that cannot be bought," said Airman Wasson. " It has made me a more thankful and humble person."

She served as a key worker for the Combined Federal Campaign, helping raise more than $70,000. She helped pay tribute to fallen service members by participating in Wreaths Across America. And, while deployed, Airman Wasson collected four pallets of clothing and shoes for local Afghani families.
