Lost Child Facility reunites children with their parents during Joint Service Open House Published May 16, 2010 By Cristie Varvaro JSOH - Joint Service Open House JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- The Lost Child Facility at Andrews' Air Show recovered approximately 60 missing children over a three day period. The Lost Child Facility was set up throughout the weekend of the Joint Service Open House, located at Joint Base Andrews, Md., to ensure a safe and happy reunion between lost children and their parents. Large crowds, approaching 60,000 visitors a day, increased the probability of a child becoming separated from his or her parents. Tech. Sgt. Shanda Yarbrough monitored the facility throughout the weekend and offered helpful tips for families. "If parents allow their children to explore the air show without supervision, I recommend they establish specific time frames for their children to contact them so they may inform them of their whereabouts," she said. "It is also important for teenagers to have a cell phone with appropriate contact information. Younger children should have proper identification on them as well." "When a missing child is reported, our designated bike patrol officers will ride throughout the crowd giving a description of the missing child," said Sergeant Yarbrough. Once a child is found and brought to the facility, they are not able to leave until their parent of guardian provides appropriate identification. Those working at the facility are committed to their responsibilities. "Any report of a missing child is serious," said Sergeant Yarbrough. "I have two children of my own, so my job means a lot to me."
