'Salvia' added to banned substances for AFDW Airmen

Air Force District of Washington Commander Maj. Gen. Darrell Jones issued a General Order June 9, 2010, prohibiting the use, possession or distribution of "Salvia" and "Spice" based on the risks to the health, welfare, and good order and discipline of the force, and the associated threat to mission accomplishment.

According to the General Order: "ll Air Force District of Washington military members are prohibited from using (including, but not limited to, consuming, chewing, inhaling, smoking, injecting or introducing into the body in any matter), possessing, or distributing the following substances:

a. Salvia Divinorum ("Salvia") or its active component, Salvinorin A, in any form.

b. All brands and forms (including incense) of the herbal product commonly known as "Spice," including, but not limited to: Spice (e.g., Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Tropical Synergy), Yucatan Gold, Dream, Blue Lotus, Bombay Blue, Gold Seal, and Magic Silver."

The general order applies to all military members assigned or attached to AFDW, including those assigned to tenant units on AFDW bases, members assigned to joint bases under AFDW cognizance, active duty personnel on temporary duty, Air Force Reserve Command personnel on orders or on inactive training status, and Air National Guard Members upon mobilization assigned or attached within AFDW.

Failure to obey the order constitutes a violation of Article 92, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), and may result in disciplinary or adverse administrative action

The general order is effect until superseded or rescinded.
