Not just another walk in the park

Air District of Washington -- Not just a walk in the park, but a walk around the base is what Air Force District of Washington Command Chief Master Sgt. Pat Battenberg had in mind when he invited the AFDW HQ executive and support staff to go for a walk Oct 21, at Andrews AFB, Md.

Chief Battenberg turned the 9.5 mile walk around the base into a team building activity and fitness walk.

"Getting out of the office and spending time with the Airmen away from the workplace and doing something that is beneficial is something that all senior leaders, supervisors, and manager should do," said Chief Battenberg.

Dressed in their physical training gear, seven Airmen from the support staff begin the walk a little after noon and finished in 2 hours and 35 minutes.

"The walk was not a fitness challenge but an exhilarating one," said Senior Airman Tiffany Miles, Knowledge Operator. "It gave me a chance to relax and learn something about my co-workers."

Chief Battenberg plans on continuing the walks around the base and challenges other AFDW directorates to get out of the office and spend time getting fit.

"Fitness and caring about your Airmen is a winning combination for the Air Force," he said.
