DoD Cyber Readiness Inspection begins across AFDW Oct. 5

Air Force District of Washington --  Defense Information System Agency inspectors arrive across AFDW Oct. 5 to begin a command-wide inspection.

The Command Cyber Readiness Inspection, or CCRI, replaces the enhanced compliance validation program. To put the new program into Air Force lingo, the program is going from a SAV to an ORI, according to AFDW/A6 Deputy Director, Chuck Elmore.

"AFDW is the first command within DoD to be scrutinized under the new CCRI guidelines," Mr. Elmore said. "Both NIPR and SIPR will be inspected. The inspectors will be looking for AFDW's information assurance vulnerability alert compliance, as well as looking at our enforcement of security technical implementation guides."

AFDW Airmen can help ensure a successful inspection by logging off daily, but leaving workstations turned on.

"Don't just pull out your Common Access Card and walk away," said Mr. Elmore. "We reboot the system during the night on all networked computers and push patches and other upgrades. If you don't log off and then log on in the morning, your system doesn't receive the upgrades. This can result in lost data or potentially unsecured workstations."

Mr. Elmore said the ultimate goal of the AFDW A/6 and the 844th Communications Group is that all AFDW users reboot their systems every day, instead of just logging off. A daily reboot will ensure all network patches have been accepted by the computer and are working correctly.

Prior to the inspection, computer users should also check to make sure only authorized software is operating on their systems and that no unauthorized portable media devices such as thumb drives and iPods are in use.

CCRI team will visit many offices throughout the course of the inspection," said Mr. Elmore. "Please be courteous to the inspectors, answer their questions and follow all applicable cyber security and information security procedures."

The CCRI will last through Oct. 9.
