In an effort to strengthen the Capital Wingman Culture throughout Air Force District of Washington contracting community, members of AFDW/PK gathered at the Chapel 1 Annex on Joint Base Andrews, Md., to participate in a viewing of Apollo 13 August 30, 2011.

This inspirational true story of the resiliency and perseverance displayed through the adversity faced by the Apollo crew was the topic of intense conversation and a significant building block for camaraderie throughout the organization. Also discussed at this event was the leadership shown by the Houston ground control team throughout the mission, and the Wingman concepts displayed during the mission by members of the crew.

The pervasive theme in all of the dialogue was the idea of "One Team, One Fight." No matter how Airmen fit individually in the Air Force organization, their roles and efforts are incredibly impactful, recognized and appreciated. Their efforts support the team and advance the mission.

Along with understanding their role in the Air Force picture, AFDW/PK Airmen are committed to supporting their role in the community. For two weeks in the fall, PK members solicited and collected school supplies for donation to the D.C. Public School System. Donation sites were established on both Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, in Washington, D.C., as well as on Joint Base Andrews. Moret han 118 pounds of school supplies were donated to local children as a result of this effort.

In conjunction with the school supply drive, AFDW/PK donated a Saturday in August to help beautify a local school, Patterson Elementary. Volunteers worked together painting stairways, cleaning windows, weeding flowerbeds, planting flowers and picking up trash on the playgrounds, making the first day of school a clean and beautiful experience for all of the students and faculty.

Capital Wingman Culture is a valuable source of commitment to service and excellence for all AFDW Airmen.
