More than 20 local, national and international media outlets gathered to watch the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Element rehearsal for the 57th Presidential Inauguration Parade Jan. 11, 2013 at Joint Base Andrews, Md. The event kicked off with remarks from Maj. Gen. Sharon K.G. Dunbar, Air Force District of Washington commander, followed by music, marching and interviews. The Air Force marching element for the parade on Jan. 21 will include Airmen from Active, Guard and Reserve units, cadets from the United States Air Force Academy, as well as Airmen from the U.S. Air Force Band and Honor Guard. The U.S. military support for the inauguration dates back to the first inauguration in 1789 and is designed to honor the Commander-in-Chief, recognize civilian control of the military and celebrate democracy.
