Concert Band welcomes its newest member Published April 8, 2013 By Master Sgt. Brooke Emery U.S. Air Force Band JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING, D.C. -- The United States Air Force Band is proud to welcome the newest member of the Concert Band, tuba player Technical Sgt. Daniel Walley. Hailing from Niceville, Fla., he joins the Band by way of New York City where he was pursuing a master's degree at the esteemed Manhattan School of Music. A musician since the age of eleven, Walley's success began early, as he was a member of the Florida All-State Band program every year of his high school career. He then chose to leave his home state to pursue a degree in Music Performance at Louisiana State University. When asked about the highlights of his college career, Walley stated, "I was a member of the LSU Tiger band, and even had to the opportunity to perform at a national championship football game in New Orleans my freshman year. I also was thrilled to spend three years in the LSU Wind Ensemble, the top large performing group on campus." Though adjusting to military life can be challenging for many new Airmen musicians, Walley seems a natural fit for the job. A child of a military family, his father graduated from the Air Force Academy and spent more than 20 years as an officer, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. "I have to say it feels fantastic to be a member of such a distinguished and long-standing performing group," says Walley. "Getting to represent my country, family, and Air Force, as well as spreading the love for music, is an opportunity beyond any that I have heretofore been given."
