Select Headquarters Air Force District of Washington families attended the 135th annual White House Easter Egg Roll hosted by the First Family April 1, 2013.
According to WhiteHouse.gov, the First Family welcomed more than 30,000 guests to the South Lawn for the Egg Roll. This year's theme, "Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You," was inspired by Let's Move!, and the day's events included numerous opportunities for the young guests to get moving. The activities included obstacle courses, yoga, dancing, playing sports with professional athletes, and of course, the traditional egg roll.

AFDW Airmen who deployed in the last 12 months, or are currently deployed, qualified for an opportunity for their families to attend the event.

"There was an egg roll, egg hunt and an obstacle course set up for the children's enjoyment, to include my daughter's age group of 2-3, which made the experience even more enjoyable," said Staff Sgt. Nicole Green, AFDW protocol. "She was able to do what all of the other children were doing."

This year, more than 30,000 people from all 50 states and the District of Columbia gathered for the event, which is the largest annual public event at the White House.

"During the egg roll, my daughter loved the egg people and music," Green said. "At one point she was dancing to Big Wheels on my husband's shoulders. We had a great time as we were able to spend quality time with our daughter having fun at the White House for Easter!"

For families hoping to attend next year, in addition to the opportunity to obtain the tickets from AFDW, tickets are distributed online as well, according to WhiteHouse.gov. Members of the public from all over the country have the opportunity to enter an online lottery for a chance to win tickets to the event. The process is competitive as more than 300,000 tickets were requested this year via the online lottery.
