The Air Force District of Washington encompasses more than 30,000 Airmen in 1,758 units stationed at 500 locations in 108 countries. AFDW Airmen execute varied missions around the world alongside service members and civilians from different Air Force major commands, joint units and international organizations. AFDW will highlight Airmen in these unique missions in an “AFDW Around the World” series.

Meet Senior Airman Ana Jovanovic:

The Airman: Airman Jovanovic is a Personnel Management Journeyman assigned to the Air Force District of Washington Headquarters Commander’s Support Staff at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. Her hometown is San Jose, California.

The job: My job entails managing 55 commanders programs. It also involves validating members’ records are current, maintained and corrected when necessary – from duty information to awards and decorations to enlisted and officer performance reports and more.  I also execute and advise the commander on personnel and commander’s programs at headquarters level.

The highlights: Everything I do in my job is unique. For example, I get the opportunity to work directly for senior leaders for whom I have the pleasure of receiving mentorship and career advice. I also have the opportunity of helping Airmen who could be located on the other side of the world. Finally, I aid in the Return-to-Service program, being the only CSS in the Air Force ensuring the ease of processing for individuals going through difficult times.

The challenges: The only challenge I have faced in this position is the vast diversity and uniqueness of AFDW’s mission. We are such a unique organization whose exact mission cannot easily be defined. We do “a little bit of everything.” However, with time and working with different units, I began to understand that we execute a worldwide mission; therefore, I saw the bigger picture of AFDW’s purpose.

The lessons: One of the things the Air Force has taught me is to be selfless and to help anyone in need.

The hobbies: My hobbies revolve around spending time with my family, going to the gym, baking and decorating delicious cakes and cupcakes, and playing video games.
