AFDW gives George H.W. Bush a final salute

Air Force District of Washington and Joint Task Force-National Capital Region personnel conducted a departure ceremony at Joint Base Andrews following the national funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral for 41st President of the United States George H.W. Bush.

The President's remains are en route to Ellington Field, Houston, Texas, where he will lie in repose until Dec. 6. A funeral service will then take place at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, at 10 a.m. CST.

Nearly 4,000 U.S. Defense Department personnel assigned to the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region provided ceremonial and civil affairs support during the state funeral. The President's remains laid in state in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol until Dec. 5 with guard of honor in attendance.

AFDW ceremonial support focus areas include planning, programming, protocol, logistical services, command and control, functional oversight and event management.
