Units

Air Force District of Washington is comprised of a headquarters staff, three wings, one group and two specialized units: the 316th Wing, the 11th Wing, the 320th Air Expeditionary Wing, the 844th Communications Group, The United States Air Force Band and The United States Air Force Honor Guard.

The 844th Communications Group has a specialized mission as the single Air Force voice in the National Capital Region for their respective field of expertise. The 316th Wing is the host unit on Joint base Andrews, Md., and the 11th Wing is the host unit on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. The AFDW headquarters staff is located on Joint Base Andrews.

316th Wing

As the host wing for Joint Base Andrews, Md., the 316th Wing is responsible for maintaining emergency reaction rotary-wing airlift and other National Capital Region contingency response capabilities critical to national security and for organizing, training, equipping and deploying combat-ready forces for Air and Space Expeditionary Forces (AEFs). The 316th Wing also provides installation security, services and airfield management to support the President, Vice President, other U.S. senior leaders and more than 50 tenant organizations and federal agencies. 844th Communications Group

Located at Joint Base Andrews, Md., the 844th Communications Group provides communications and information support to Air Force National Capital Region warfighters, including Headquarters Air Force District of Washington, the 316th Wing, and various other organizations throughout the NCR.

Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR), based at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C., enables continuity of government/operations, supports homeland defense, and conducts defense support of civil authorities in support of a lead federal agency in coordination with NCR partners and service components to minimize the effects of attacks and natural disasters in the NCR Joint Operations Area (JOA).
