The Bolling fitness center received the highest marks possible in the five-star recognition program Dec. 2. The five-star rating program is an assessment to determine superior achievements and overall excellence of the gym over the past fiscal year.

Gyms are rated in areas of operations, programs, training, facilities and customer service. A facility must achieve a minimum score of 90 percent out of the total point value. Bolling received a score of 100 percent.

A number of categories revolve around safety and education, some categories are about customer service. For example, a facility must be open at least 112 hours a week and have two staff members on hand at all times. In all these categories Bolling has received the highest score possible.

This is Bolling's third straight year to receive the award. Out of the 86 Air Force bases that competed for the awarded, only 42 received it this year.

The Bolling fitness center made many improvements and changes over the past year to earn the award, such as renovating the fitness center locker room and the softball field.

The introduction of the CrossFit program this year was also helpful, said Mr. Melendez. There were a lot of little things that may not be easily noticed but make the fitness center a better place. "There are a lot of moving parts in the operation of a fitness center," he said.

"We have a dedicated and experienced staff," said Issac Melendez, fitness and sports complex director. "We are highly motivated and enjoy what we do."
