The Air Force District of Washington formally released its 2016-2021 Strategic Plan today here at a brief, formal ceremony hosted by Maj. Gen. Darryl W. Burke, AFDW Commander.

While ceremoniously distributing the first copies of the new AFDW Strategic Plan to Commanders, A-staff directors and other members of the AFDW staff, Burke noted our Air Force faces a myriad of challenges amid an unstable geo-political atmosphere.

He highlighted how the Strategic Plan aligns with and complements the Air Force’s Strategic Master Plan. “It purposefully sharpens our specific mission tasks and guidance, prepares us to apply diversity of thought in all we do, increases collaboration with our mission partners and applies game-changing technology to our processes.”

Burke also challenged the AFDW staff to seek out new approaches to how AFDW operates and supports the Air Force, noting the Air Force Chief of Staff’s directive to become increasingly more innovative and adaptive, while also highlighting how AFDW is a unique organization that helps protect the National Capital Region, demonstrates the best of the United States Air Force to a worldwide audience and supports Headquarters Air Force and Joint Forces.

Bringing it back to AFDW, its mission and its personnel, Burke highlighted AFDW’s Vision: Renowned for Excellence, Prepared to Respond; and its Motto: Pride...Teamwork...Success; while challenging Team AFDW to embrace the Strategic Plan’s vision and the AFDW mission.

“Our mission -- contingency response, ceremonial honors and operational support across the Nation’s capital and worldwide -- remains incredibly complex and varied, and must not falter,” said Burke. “I charge each and every person assigned to AFDW to continue to evolve, to be agile and to embrace our strategic plan.

“Our success is based on your unwavering dedication to the AFDW mission and our ability to communicate it internally and externally. Be an active contributor to advance our objectives,” he said. “You, the Airmen of AFDW, are the most important component of this strategic plan, and, I am grateful for each and every one of you and the outstanding job you do every day.”
