The Air Force and Army recently opened the Pentagon Army and Air Force Legal Assistance Office. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Lt. Gen. Jack L. Rives, Judge Advocate General of the Air Force, and Lt. Gen. Scott C. Black, Judge Advocate General of the Army, Feb. 25.

"The PAAFLAO has been operational for three weeks and has been helping servicemembers from the ranks of E-4 all the way up to four-star generals," said John Meixell, chief of Legal Assistance Policy Division for the Army.

The space for the newly opened legal office became available in 2008, allowing the JAGs from the Army and Air Force to reestablish a presence for Pentagon customers.

"This convenient location provides 'in-the-building' support and saves clients the trip to Bolling," said Lt. Col. Dawn M. Zoldi, 11th Wing Staff Judge Advocate. "And it's only two doors down from the new military personnel flight."

PAAFLAO is located in room 5B1058A. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Legal assistance is provided by appointment exclusively to eligible Army and Air Force clients.

Eligible clients include active duty servicemembers and their family members, retirees and their family members, and certain National Guard and Reserve members. Powers-of-attorney and notary services will be provided on a walk-in basis.

The PAAFLAO will offer limited tax services this year.
