Senior Master Sgt. Johnny L. Hamm is the First Sergeant to the Commander, Air Force District of Washington, Joint Base Andrews, Md. He serves as the principle advisor to the commander and key leaders in maintaining discipline, standards, and morale and welfare of more than 5,000 Air Force enlisted personnel assigned to AFDW and Air Force elements worldwide. He builds and maintains a mission-ready enlisted force to execute home station and expeditionary mission requirements. He provides professional guidance and monitors administrative actions, performance reports, awards, decorations, promotions, professional military education and family care programs.

Sergeant Hamm enlisted in the Air Force in 1995. Following basic training, he attended the Vehicle Maintenance Heavy Equipment Repair Apprentice Course, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He spent the next nine years in the vehicle maintenance career field until he became a military training leader in 2004. He served as the military training flight chief for four years until becoming a first sergeant in 2008. His assignments have included the United Kingdom, Mississippi, Republic of Korea, Oklahoma and Florida. Sergeant Hamm has deployed in support of Operations Southern Watch, Allied Force, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
