Wayne McCray, an Air Force District of Washington Capital Airman, is an essential contributor to the Air Force communication mission within the National Capital Region. McCray's support with the 844th Communications Group also has a direct impact on the global Air Force mission.

McCray is an education specialist for AFDW's A6 and the 844th CG. He is also the commander's program inspection manager and inspector general for the 844th CG.

Originally from South Carolina, McCray started his career with the Air Force as an aircraft support equipment technician for nine years on active duty. Looking for another way to serve, he transferred into the Air Force civil service by taking a job at AFDW.

"We've got an incredible group of folks to work with," said McCray. "Some of the things they do week in and week out are pretty amazing."

McCray has impressed 844th CG and AFDW leadership as an inspector and educator. His skill and motivational attitude have been recognized by everyone with whom he works.

"Mr. Wayne McCray is the epitome of the Air Force's core values and an incredibly valuable member of the 844th CG," says Chief Master Sgt. Tom Snead, 844th CG Chief Enlisted Manager. "As the lead for our Commanders' Inspection Program, Mr. McCray took the reins and built a rock solid culture of compliance instilling a laser sharp focus on standards and continuous improvement that has spread through the entire organization."

As an inspector, he has made a significant impact improving the overall mission of AFDW and the 844th CG. McCray recently reflected on his team's achievements while participating in the end-of-year debriefing.

"It was a good time to watch our group complete its strategic goals and missions for the year," McCray said.

Air Force District of Washington Capital Airmen have made a difference in their unit by their outstanding performance. Capital Airmen, selected by AFDW leaders, epitomize the pride, teamwork, and success that drive the AFDW mission.
